Livvy

Yesterday, Livvy (Olivia, who I nanny for) again smiled and laughed as I got her out of her crib. I should rephrase that, laughing I'll describe as excited kicking, hard breathing and bright eyes.

This week, on one of our walks, we went in a different direction and I explored a beautiful church. All major doors were locked to the chapel, but I found a back door open that I sneaked into. It was deserted but flooded in warm colored light from the many stained glass windows. Because of the carpeting and cushions, the acoustics are hardly like a stone cathedral, but we still sang a few songs.

Much of our time together is spent singing lots of songs from hymns to Patty Cake. I decided that I should memorize some more of my Irish folk songs--I know so many tunes but not many words. This week I memorized 'The Castle of Dromore'

The October Winds Lament around the Castle of Dromore
Yet peace is in it's lofty halls, my loving treasure store
Though autumn leaves may droop and die, a bud of spring you are. [C]

Bring no ill wind to hinder us, my helpless babe and me.
Dread spirit of Blackwater Banks, Clan Owens' wild banshee.
and Holy Mary pitying us in heav'n for grace doth sue. [C]

Take time to thrive, my rose of hope in the garden of Dromore.
Take heed, young eagle, till your wings are feathered, fit to soar.
A little rest and then the world is full of work to do.

[C]: Sing hush-a-bye loo, la loo lo lan, sing hush-a-bye loo la lo.
