There is a program that the mission president has invited us to use constantly to interact with ward members called the 'set a date program,' or "fixer une date." In this program, we visit families of the ward and instill the fire of the gospel and of sharing the gospel in them. We then choose a date in the future to have a soirée together where we will return to the family's home with an investigator--who may have been found by us or the member. We also choose a time each night where we will all pray together to find someone, to have someone's heart softened or to be able to think of a friend to invite over for a dinner *with the missionaries.
Well, we tried it with the famille Gonga who we have been working with recently to read the sciptures together as a family. So our lesson had seeds and sprout in it and excitement on our faces.
This saturday, we came back to the Gonga's. Frère Gonga had brought his friend, Olivier whom he had told us about to dine with him and his 'church friends.' Olivier has worked with Brother Gonga for six months, and the last few they have eaten lunch together every day. Brother Gonga never really talked about his religion with him, but Olivier did. He has been converted to CHristianity and taking catechism lessons that take a year before he will be a catholic.
How can I write each of his searching questions or describe the spirit that was around the dinner table? After our description of the apostasy and the truths of the gospel, he said, i think that the Catholic church actually doesn't have all the truths that you are describing. I'm starting to think that all the churches I've looked at are wrong. later on, he said, I would like not to drink coffee either. I need to stop smoking. If I got baptized in Paris, could you come to my baptism?--there is a church at St. Merri close to where he lives.
I think that he was crying when we left.
doesn't everything just make more sense in the gospel? it is all so beautiful. can't you all see that?
love
