Creation by Song

I have always been fascinated with mythology, and more specifically, creation myths. Much to my delight, many of these varied accounts often depict creation by song (some examples are Eru Ilùvatar & children--Tolkien, Hopi Native American myth, Aslan--Lewis, etc). It may be the voice of many gods, singing together in unity. It may be the voice of the earth as nature springs forth. It might be the voice of a lion, creating light, mountains and trees with different beautiful notes. In our doctrine, it is voice, the voice of God, 'let there be light,' and the light was.

I recognize true musicians when I am transported by their music. They have created a world in which I can feel and be. How do we create these worlds?

This weekend, we heard from Elder Christofferson, "work creates beauty--especially consecrated work."

and from Elder Scott,
Faith is a foundational building block of creation. Faith transforms what is maudlin and common into Symphonies of Joy.

Consistent exercising of Faith builds strong character. Character is treasured porcelain made of select raw materials carefully crafted, formed in faith by countless consistent righteous acts fired in the furnace of uplifting experiences. It is of great beauty and priceless worth.

I am so easily moved by this music. By the spirit that we can put behind this music, by the freshness that we bring to create these worlds. I love the transformative power of this music. I love being transformed. I thank our Creator for our talents, for our ability to feel, to know, and to testify. I thank our Creator for Song.
