After delivering all the music to be copied for the Christmas missionary Choir concert to the bureau (office) on Friday, I sat purposefully in front of a lady that had a violin case on the RER A.
After she had finished putting on eyeliner (people do anything and everything on trains), I asked if she were a violinst and introduced myself as one. She was going off to a performance in Nanterre! and she teaches at Gennevilliers (near st ouen) and invited me to play with the orchestra at her conservatory. (if you're in good shape...)
As I bore testimony to her between noisy screeches of train wheels (i have really started to get used to it), i talked about the spirituality in music and the gift that it was from Heavenly Father. She quite agreed. She gave me all of her information so that we can do something together. and then proposed a free ticket to her concert tonight if I liked.
Later on, during what was supposed to be our dinner hour, we arrived at the 'maison de Musique'... Sr Gifford said that it was My house (maison means house btw). I was soooo blissful and glad to be able to stand in the line for 'invited guests.'
Many asked about our badges, and we talked to everybody around us about the program, music, God, and church--of course. The quality was San Francisco Orchestra (well, the backup band they used for a few numbers was less). The program was Brahms Ballade piano solo and then a bunch of things arranged for string quartet with a soprano solo,( one Schoenburg) and then a group of Schubert Lieds arranged for violin, cello, and accordion. with the soloist. WOW. blew my ears away. lots of pizzacatto, left hand placing, playing with the stick, and Pointillism orchestration. I was in heaven. the arranger / transcriber is likely where music is going next... so cool. i pulled my colleage away before mahler's kindertodenlieder but i knew that it would be better if we were obediently home on time.
Oh how I rejoice in this wonderful chance I have to wear (porte in French which also means carry and means door) the name of my Lord during this short time. and it is so fun to be with another Blue (greeny) too! I love doing the right thing. I love working with wonderful people. I love singing to those who suffer and who need support. I love the gospel of Christ. gros bisous to everyone!
