My favorite lesson this week was Sylvain's. His page in the area book only has record of one lesson, but he is the friend of the Pires family from Brazil. (Sister Pires drove up to nogent several times to help me teach a brazilian family a long time ago, it is great to find her here too!) He just happened to be over when we called and agreed to a rendezvous on Saturday. He volunteered with us for the ward activity for fundrasing for the Ordre du Malte for Leprosy beforehand. We came upstairs with him and Soeur Pires.
Then her husband, Fernando Pires came in. Then Dominique Lamyam (whose sister I taught 2 lessons in St Ouen) showed up, can I join the lesson? ! and then Didier Patoux came in, baptized only a few weeks ago (peter i told you about him in a snail mail on the way).
So, with the class full, and all for Sylvain, we had rapt audience. Of course, I had them all sing (maybe it's better when just sr brough and I sing) and pray. There was an amazing spirit there. I just asked questions and we all discussed.
He had supposedly already learned about ther premortal life, so I asked why does God feel it important to give us the knowledge of the Premortal life? What does that change for us? anything? after her understood a little more clearly free agency ('i don't think it's right that we all do what we want') we kept on explaining the purpose of this life and the spirit world.
He turned to us and said, 'that's the whole problem. what church is the one with the truth?'
had he not been taught about Joseph Smith? maybe it was just too long ago.
That is the same question that a Joseph asked in 1820. Perhaps you would like to read his account?
Then each of the members shared their specific conversion stories of their answers, which were different than Joseph's. He said, 'all I ask is that you and God be patient with me.'
The next morning, he came to 45 minutes of Priesthood/RS before going to work. ! wow. AND he brought his friend!
